The benefits of reciting surah Mulk are more than we can count, and our beloved prophet instructed us to read it daily.

The prophet (peace and blessing be upon him) said: “Indeed there is a Surah in the Qur’an of thirty Ayat, which intercedes for a man until he is forgiven. It is [Surah] Tabarak Alladhi Biyadihil-Mulk.”

Surah al Mulk is one of the shortest surahs in the holy Quran with only 30 verses. It is the surah number 67 and it is in the Juz number 30. It was revealed to our beloved prophet while he was in Mecca, hence it is a Makki surah. Surah Mulk took its name from its first verse, which is:

“Blessed is the One in Whose Hands rests all authority. And He is Most Capable of everything.”

  2. Narrated Jabir: “The Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) would not sleep until he recited surah Alif  laam meem Tanzeel (Surah Sajdah) and Surah Tabarak (Surah Al Mulk).”
  3. The benefits of reading Surah Mulk at Night are many, Ibn Abbas (R.A) narrates that Prophet Muhammad (peace and blessing be upon him) said: “It (Surah Al Mulk) is a protector; a rescuer; saving from the chastisement of the grave.”

5 Benefits of surah Mulk recitation

Recitation of surah Mulk grants us many benefits, here are some of them:

1.  Surah Mulk Grants many rewards to its reciter.

Jabir narrated: “The Prophet (PBUH) would not sleep until he recited surah Alif laam meem Tanzeel (Surah Sajdah) and Surah Tabarak (Surah Al Mulk).”

Our beloved prophet instructed us to recite it because of the many benefits of reciting surah mulk and rewards to the one who recites it not just in this life but also in the hereafter.

Narrated by Abdullah bin Masoud, Prophet Muhammed (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) said: “Whoever recites a letter of Allah’s Book will have a good deed and a good deed is multiplied into ten. I do not say that: Alif Laam Meem is counted as one letter. Rather, Alif is a letter, Lam is a letter, and Meem is a letter”.

2. Benefit of reciting surah mulk for Intercession on the Day of Judgement.

Among the benefits of reciting surah mulk is that it intercedes for its reciter on the day of judgment. The prophet (peace and blessing be upon him) said:

“There is a chapter of the Quran that will argue on behalf of its reciter until it causes him to enter into Paradise. It is: (Blessed be He in Whose Hand is the dominion) that is Surah Al Mulk.” (At-Tabarani)

The benefit of reciting surah Mulk daily is that it intercedes for its reciter on the day of judgment. Abu Hurairah Narrated that, the prophet (peace and blessing be upon him) said: “Indeed there is a Surah in the Qur’an of thirty Ayat, which intercedes for a man until he is forgiven. It is [Surah] Tabarak Alladhi Biyadihil-Mulk.”

3. Prevent the torment of the grave.

Among the benefits of reciting surah Mulk is that it protects its reciter from grave torment. Ibn Abbas (R.A) narrates that Prophet Muhammad (peace and blessing be upon him) said: “It (Surah Al Mulk) is a protector; a rescuer; saving from the chastisement of the grave.”

Therefore, our beloved prophet wouldn’t sleep without reciting its verses and instructing us to do the same. The Prophet (PBUH) said: “Whoever recites Surah Al Mulk every night is saved from the torment of the grave.”

4. Brings Peace To The Heart.

Surah Mulk brings peace of mind and soul to the one who reads it. As it teaches us that we will be rewarded and that Allah will forgive our sins and mistakes.

“Indeed, those in awe of their Lord without seeing Him will have forgiveness and a mighty reward.” [surah Mulk, 12]

Knowing this will make you feel peace of mind when reciting the verses, that’s one of the benefits of reciting surah mulk.

4. Reminding us of the many blessings we have.

When reciting surah Mulk you will learn about the many blessings that Allah granted us.

“He is the One Who smoothed out the earth for you, so move about in its regions and eat from His provisions. And to Him is the resurrection of all˺.” [Surah Mulk, 15]

Surah Mulk in English

Blessed is the One in Whose Hands rests all authority. And He is Most Capable of everything.

He is the One˺ Who created death and life in order to test which of you is best in deeds. And He is the Almighty, All-Forgiving.

He is the One˺ Who created seven heavens, one above the other. You will never see any imperfection in the creation of the Most Compassionate.1 So look again: do you see any flaws?

Then look again and again—your sight will return frustrated and weary.

And indeed, We adorned the lowest heaven with ˹stars like˺ lamps, and made them ˹as missiles˺ for stoning ˹eavesdropping˺ devils, for whom We have also prepared the torment of the Blaze.1

Those who disbelieve in their Lord will suffer the punishment of Hell. What an evil destination!

When they are tossed into it, they will hear its roaring as it boils over,

almost bursting in fury. Every time a group is cast into it, its keepers will ask them, “Did a warner not come to you?”

They will reply, “Yes, a warner did come to us, but we denied and said, ‘Allah has revealed nothing. You are extremely astray.’”

And they will lament, “If only we had listened and reasoned, we would not be among the residents of the Blaze!”

And so they will confess their sins. So away with the residents of the Blaze!

Indeed, those in awe of their Lord without seeing Him1 will have forgiveness and a mighty reward.

Whether you speak secretly or openly—He surely knows best what is ˹hidden˺ in the heart.

How could He not know His Own creation? For He alone is the Most Subtle, All-Aware.

He is the One Who smoothed out the earth for you, so move about in its regions and eat from His provisions. And to Him is the resurrection ˹of all˺.

Do you feel secure that the One Who is in heaven will not cause the earth to swallow you up as it quakes violently?

Or do you feel secure that the One Who is in heaven will not unleash upon you a storm of stones. Only then would you know how serious my warning was!

And certainly those before them denied as well, then how severe was My response!

Have they not seen the birds above them, spreading and folding their wings? None holds them up except the Most Compassionate. Indeed, He is All-Seeing of everything.

Also, which ˹powerless˺ force will come to your help instead of the Most Compassionate? Indeed, the disbelievers are only ˹lost˺ in delusion.

Or who is it that will provide for you if He withholds His provision? In fact, they persist in arrogance and aversion to the truth.

Who is ˹rightly˺ guided: the one who crawls facedown or the one who walks upright on the Straight Path?

Say, ˹O Prophet,˺ “He is the One Who brought you into being and gave you hearing, sight, and intellect. Yet you hardly give any thanks.”

˹Also˺ say, “He is the One Who has dispersed you ˹all˺ over the earth, and to Him you will ˹all˺ be gathered.”

˹Still˺ they ask ˹the believers˺, “When will this threat come to pass if what you say is true?”

Say, ˹O Prophet,˺ “That knowledge is with Allah alone, and I am only sent with a clear warning.”

Then when they see the torment drawing near, the faces of the disbelievers will become gloomy, and it will be said to them, “This is what you claimed would never come.”1

Say, ˹O Prophet,˺ “Consider this: whether Allah causes me and those with me to die or shows us mercy, who will save the disbelievers from a painful punishment?”1

Say, “He is the Most Compassionate—in Him ˹alone˺ we believe, and in Him ˹alone˺ we trust. You will soon know who is clearly astray.”

Say, “Consider this: if your water were to sink into the earth˺, then who else could bring you flowing water?”
